4h8h Cash Game

Published on December 23, 2009

In a tight cash poker game, I loosened up and raised with 4h8h to $1.50. The BB called. We both had stacks of about 50. Flop is 4 8 9 all diamonds. This is a confusing flop. On the one poker hand, I obviously love flopping two pair. But this is a very wet board. There are 3 diamonds and lots of straight possibilities. Someone could already have me beat with a flush, or they could certainly have a diamond draw. He checks and I check behind. I want to see the turn card and make a better decision, but in the meantime I want to keep the pot controlled. Turn is Qc. He bets $3.25 I call. I could raise here, but I would still like to keep this pot small and see the river. River is 4c. This is one of my best poker online cards. It gives me a full house, beating a flush. It’s also not the best full house, but unless he flopped a set, there aren’t many hands he’s calling my raise with preflop that would result in a better boat (Q-4, 9-4). He bets 4.90 I raise to 12 he folds his cards.
