New York Green Police are on the Job
A team of twenty Green Police are on the job for New York City’s Department of Environmental Conservation. The Green Police’s duty is to enforce environmental regulations all around the city. The Green Police have the power to issue tickets and levy fines. For example, the Green Police can pull over vehicles that are violating emission standards set by the state. For this particular area of environmental law enforcement, the Green Police are equipped with tools that can measure how much CO2 a car is emitting. The Green Police are also charged with food inspections to ensure environmental food laws are being followed. For example, certain fish species are protected, and there are laws stating that fish must be a certain size to be caught. The size regulations for fishing ensure that fish stocks are continually replenished; if fishermen caught fish that are too small, a fish species could not reproduce quickly enough. The Green police check fish vendors to make sure these important environmental regulations are being adhered to. The Green police also make sure illegal shellfish are not on the market; shellfish from certain areas of the world are not permitted to be sold in the US for environmental reasons.
